IFT stands for interfacility transfers. Meaning this ambulance company does not provide a 911 service. We transfer from Hospital to hospital and take people to appointments and back home if needed. Some of these people require cardiac monitoring others just can’t walk or don’t have the mental capacity to take care of themselves and that’s when we come in. In other words we are not first responders but I have been first on scene of traffic collisions. I treat and then transfer of care to the 911
