Dr. Amir Toure of Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Museum and Day Clean Journeys has today’s Black History Moment. Maude Callen was known as the “Angel of the Twilight.” She was a notable nurse and midwife in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Callen was the primary care provider for hundreds. She was featured in Life magazine in a photo essay titled “Nurse Midwife.” The Angel was a graduate of Florida A&M University, TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY, and Georgia Infirmary here in Savannah. #DiscoverBlackSavannah
